MANILA, Philippines—Acting Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have deployed patrols and set up checkpoints following tension in Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan.
“The PNP intensified peacekeeping and investigative operations in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, following the successful de-escalation of a rido-related conflict,” Nartatez said in a statement Wednesday.
Armed men gathered at the Tipo-Tipo town center at 7 a.m. Tuesday, pursuing a local government employee they believed responsible for the Oct. 21 killing of Islamic teacher and Baguindan village Councilor Ustadz Nadzrie “Bahang” Tarahin.
