MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Opong has reintensified into a typhoon over the West Philippine Sea as it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday morning or noon, Sept. 27.
In its 4 a.m. report, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Opong’s center was spotted 505 kilometers west of Indang, Cavite, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 150 kph.
Only Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted in the following areas:
• Zambales
• Bataan
• Cavite
• Batangas
• Occidental Mindoro •including Lubang Islands)
•Western portion of Pangasinan
Pagasa noted that rainfall directly linked to Opong has already weakened, though localized thunderstorms and rain showers may still affect parts of the country.
