By MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Nicolas Torre III told officers “not to forget their humanity” after a college student died of leptospirosis, which he contracted while wading through floodwaters to go to his father detained at a police station.
The leptospirosis victim’s father, Jayson Dela Rosa, was arrested by police for alleged shoplifting last July 22 — amid the onslaught of the southwest monsoon — and kept at the Caloocan City Police Substation 2 until he was charged for gambling three days later.
