MANILA — Nando will reach super typhoon intensity on Monday, before approaching the Babuyan Islands, according to PAGASA. The state weather bureau said Nando would intensify steadily while crossing the Philippine Sea and reach its peak strength on Monday and Tuesday.
Nando may make landfall over or pass very close to Babuyan Islands during this period, bringing life-threatening conditions from its violent winds, torrential rainfall, and above 3 meter storm surge.It may exit the Philippine area of responsibility Tuesday midday or afternoon.
At 10 a.m. Friday, Nando was spotted 1,005 kilometers east of Central Luzon. The tropical storm was packing sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour with up to 90 kph gusts. Wind signal no. 1 may be hoisted over parts of Northern Luzon as early as Saturday morning, with signal no. 5 as the highest wind warning to be raised.Nando will also enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring monsoon rains over western Luzon from Sunday.
