PH junior lifters capture 3 golds in Asian tilt

Filipino weightlifters secured multiple medals on the opening day of the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships held in Doha, Qatar.

On Friday, Aldrin Colonia secured two gold medals in the men’s youth 49-kilogram event at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships. He clinched gold in the Clean and Jerk (118 kg) and the Total category (213 kg) after starting his campaign with a silver medal in the snatch (95 kg).

Fellow Filipino Eron Borres added to the medal haul by winning gold in the snatch with an impressive lift of 97 kg.

Dao Bui Minh of Vietnam took silver in the Total category with 204 kg, while Babulal Hembrom of India claimed the bronze with a total lift of 197 kg.

Colonia expressed his joy, calling it a “dream come true” to see the Philippine flag raised during a major tournament. “My dream came true [hearing] the anthem of the Philippines,” he wrote, thanking his coach Gregorio Colonia and other coaches for their support in achieving his goals.

Other Filipino medalists included Althea Bacaro, who won silver in the women’s 40 kg category, and Angeline Colonia, who earned silver in the women’s junior 45 kg category.

Bronze medal finishes were achieved by Alexandria Diaz (women’s 45 kg) and Rosalinda Faustino (women’s youth 49 kg). Meanwhile, Prince Kiel Delos Santos brought home a silver in the men’s youth 55 kg and a bronze in the junior 55 kg events.
