MANILA, Philippines — Acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. told rallyists not to view the law enforcement agency as an enemy for the upcoming anti-corruption protests on Sept. 21.
“This coming Sunday, let us not view our police as the enemy. Instead, they are your partners in ensuring that your right to express your grievances will be heard and respected,” Nartatez said in a statement on Tuesday.
Nartatez further said he will be meeting with the organizers of the Sept. 21 rallies to coordinate safety measures and ensure that the groups secure permits from the respective local government units.
