MANILA, Philippines — Rains are forecast to persist in most parts of the country on Thursday due to the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, said the state weather bureau.

In its 5 a.m. update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that the trough of the LPA, last spotted 705 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, is expected to bring cloudy skies with a high chance of rain showers and thunderstorms over the following areas:
