By MANILA, Philippines — The heat index in Cotabato City is expected to reach a dangerous 45ºC on Wednesday, April 15, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Heat index is defined as the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”
Indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC are undee the danger level due to increased risks of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could then lead to heat stroke, Meanwhile, other areas are forecast to reach indices categorized “extreme caution” or those ranging from 33ºC to 41ºC based on Pagasa’s forecast as of 5 p.m.
