Batangas jailbreak: 8 of 10 inmates recaptured

BATANGAS, Philippines — Authorities recaptured most of the inmates that escaped the Batangas Provincial Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Malainin, Ibaan, after a hot pursuit operation on Monday, July 28.

Around 9:30 am: While jail guard PG1 Jhamil Ramirez Alcantara was escorting inmates to the facility’s public utility room, one of them threatened him with an ice pick, seized his service firearm, and aimed it at him. Ten persons deprived of liberty fled on foot toward Barangay Quilo, Ibaan.

Around 1 pm: The Sto. Tomas City police, two towns away, received verified information that five of the 10 escapees boarded an ALPS bus with body number 7087 traveling northbound via Star Tollway. Personnel of the Sto. Tomas Component City Police Station intercepted the bus near the Tanauan-Sto. Tomas boundary and successfully convinced the five fugitives to surrender peacefully.
