Alex Eala continued her steady rise in the professional circuit after reaching a new-career high WTA ranking ahead of her upcoming stint at the Guangzhou Open in China on Tuesday.
The Filipina sensation is now the world no. 53, surpassing her previous best of no. 54 she achieved last October 6. The feat moved Eala closer to entering the Top 50 that features the best of the best in the world.
The 20-year-old Eala, who now has 1131 points, climbed up the ladder despite absorbing an early exit at the Japan Women’s Open, where she lost to Tereza Valentova of Czechia in their Round of 32 match.
