By MANILA, Philippines — Super Typhoon Nando (international name: Ragasa) maintained its strength while the wind signals were lifted early Wednesday morning, the state weather bureau said.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the center of the eye of Nando was spotted 775 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes.
Nando was carrying a wind speed of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 230 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph, Pagasa also said that Nando is forecast to move generally northwestward as it approaches waters south of mainland China. It may make landfall over Southern China on Wednesday afternoon or evening, The agency added that Nando will weaken “due to [a] marginally favorable environment over the waters south of mainland China and the increasing frictional effects due to proximity to land.”
