MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Nando (international name: Ragasa) intensified into a super typhoon on Sunday morning, the state weather bureau said.
In its 10 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Nando had reached the super typhoon category as of 8 a.m. Pagasa added that the weather system remains inside the Philippine area of responsibility.
Pagasa also reported that Nando was last located 555 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, as of 8 a.m. It gained strength, carrying a wind speed of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 230 kph.
