MANILA, Philippines — The combined effects of the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” and a low-pressure area (LPA) will trigger rain in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the northern portion of Mindanao on Monday, according to the state weather bureau.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Daniel Villamil said that the LPA being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility will bring heavy rains as it approaches landmass.
The LPA was spotted some 365 kilometers east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, at 3 a.m. However, it has a low likelihood of intensifying into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
