Juan Gomez de Liaño made key shots in the clutch as Converge pulled off a 109-103 comeback win over Meralco in a tuneup game Thursday at Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong.
The second overall pick of the recent PBA Rookie Draft buried a four-point basket and later drove in a left-handed layup over Raymond Almazan, helping the FiberXers erase a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit and seal the win.
It was Gomez de Liaño’s first game in a Converge uniform, albeit in preseason, and he got a feel for playing with frontcourt anchors Justin Baltazar and Justine Arana, as well as guards Alec Stockton and Schonny Winston. “It was actually our first time playing together, especially with Balti (Baltazar),” he said. “In practices, they usually switch things up, so sometimes I’m with the second group, sometimes with the first.”
