By LUCENA CITY, QUEZON, Philippines — A motorcycle rider was arrested after police recovered an illegal firearm and suspected shabu (crystal meth) from him at a checkpoint in General Mariano Alvarez town in Cavite province early Tuesday, May 26, police said.
In a report, the Cavite Police Provincial Office (CPPO) said officers conducting “Oplan Sita,” a routine anti-criminality checkpoint, flagged down a helmetless motorcycle rider identified only as “Danilo,” 42, along Congressional Road in Barangay Macario Dacon at dawn.
Police said the rider was stopped for routine inspection, as wearing protective headgear is mandated under Republic Act No. 10054, or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
