MANILA, Philippines — Sangley Point, Cavite, was forecast to sizzle at a 42°C heat index on Monday, April 20, falling within the “danger” level threshold, the state weather bureau reported.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the heat index measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to temperature and air humidity.
Heat indices from 42°C to 51°C fall under the “danger” level category, since these could cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke with continued sun exposure, Meanwhile, Pagasa said Metro Manila is expected to experience heat indices that fall under the “extreme caution” category (33°C to 41°C).
