By MANILA, Philippines — The new petition that once again sought to stop the House justice committee from proceeding with its impeachment inquiry against Vice President Sara Duterte was meant to clarify if the process was compliant with the 1987 Constitution and not to avoid the process itself, her defense team said on Wednesday.
Michael Poa, one of Duterte’s impeachment lawyers, also confirmed the filing of the petition for certiorari and prohibition seeking to halt the ongoing impeachment proceedings at the House justice committee, “This step was taken to seek clarity on fundamental constitutional questions, which, in our view, warrant the Court’s immediate attention,” Poa said in a statement.
