Cyclone outside PAR may pull away ‘habagat’ from PH

MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area being monitored has developed into a tropical depression after exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and may pull away the southwest monsoon, or habagat, from the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its 5 a.m. forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the cyclone was last spotted 555 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union, outside the PAR.
