SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur– A major anti-smuggling operation led to the seizure of an estimated P3 billion worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes during a large-scale interdiction conducted last week at Gothong Private Port in Barangay Talisay, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
The operation, considered one of the most significant anti-smuggling actions in the Caraga region, was a collaborative effort between the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO13), the Bureau of Customs (BOC13), and various other law enforcement agencies.
Maj. Jennifer Ometer, PRO13 information officer, told the Inquirer in a phone interview that while the incident took place on May 8, the Police Regional Office 13 only announced it on Monday due to the intricate inventory process required for such a large volume of seized products.
