“Midnight Girls” dropped its first teaser as four Filipina friends played by Jodi Sta. Maria, Sanya Lopez, Loisa Andalio, and Jane Oineza take viewers to the life of entertainers in a foreign land. Shot in Nagoya, Japan, the soulful drama explores the hidden lives of Filipina OFWs, the mothers, daughters, and dreamers who trade their identities for the chance at a better life. The teaser references the SexBomb Dancers as women raised to become tough. But beyond their nightlife persona, the film finds the quiet, human stories of who these women truly are; they are daughters sending money home, mothers missing milestones, and lovers repressing their feelings for the sake of survival. After years of being defined by those they serve and their sacrifices for others, the story asks: when can they find the courage to choose themselves? The movie is set for release on May 13.
