MANILA, Philippines — Cigarettes worth an estimated P1.1 billion were recovered from trailer trucks and a container van supposedly unattended in Batangas City on Wednesday morning, the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG) said.
Police found the trucks after a car owner reported his sedan stolen, and authorities traced the vehicle through its global positioning system (GPS) to a lot in Sitio Singko, Barangay Balete, the HPG noted in a statement.
“The operating team conducted an assessment of the surrounding area. During this process, several vehicles were observed parked in an unattended condition, including trailer trucks and a container van,” the HPG explained.
