The heat index level in the coastal town of Atimonan in Quezon province reached a dangerous 42 degrees Celsius on Thursday amid stormy weather.
In a public advisory posted on Facebook, the Atimonan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said the 42°C heat index was recorded at 11:46 a.m. through the local government’s Automated Weather Station (AWS).
“Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., as it may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could lead to heat stroke if physical activity continues without interruption,” the advisory, written in Filipino, stated.
