Solon: Supply shortage, not late reporting, caused power outage

MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker has urged lawmakers to focus on the power supply shortage as the root of rotational brownouts early this May instead of putting the blame on allegedly late reporting made by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

During Tuesday’s joint hearing of the House of Representatives committee on energy and the committee on legislative franchises, Murang Kuryente party-list Rep. Arthur Yap intervened when lawmakers were asking whether NGCP was able to fulfill its obligation to deliver on-time incident reports to the Department of Energy (DOE).

According to Yap, the brownouts last May 13 would not have existed in the first place if the country’s grid had enough supply, regardless of power plants tripping.
