By MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan has ordered the 90-day preventive suspension of San Simon, Pampanga Mayor Abundio “JP” Punsalan Jr. pending a trial for graft and extortion.
The directive comes following his entrapment last September at a restaurant in Clark Freeport, where he was allegedly caught receiving a bag containing about P30 million.
“Any public officer against whom any criminal prosecution under a valid information under this Act or under the provisions of the Revised Penal Code on bribery is pending in court, shall be suspended from office,” part of Section 13, as quoted by the court, reads.
